VAN GOGH MUSEUM IN AMSTERDAM HAS RECORD YEAR IN 2015

Picture
ME News - The Van Gogh Museum closes the jubilee year 2015 with a record number of visitors.
Van Gogh seems more relevant than ever, 125 years after his death: 1.9 million visitors from all over the world came to the museum, including a considerable percentage from the Netherlands. The museum attracted a great deal of attention, among other things, with the opening of the new glass entrance.
"The attention for Van Gogh and our museum is overwhelming. Countless people from all over the world show in very different ways that Van Gogh is still a huge source of inspiration. That this translates into a steadily growing number of visitors, is for me the icing on the cake. A nice end to an eventful year ", says director Axel Rüger.

Growing number of visitors

In comparison with 2014, the number of visitors grew by more than 18% in 2015: from 1.6 to 1.9 million. This increase is due to an exceptional combination of factors: great worldwide attention and a lot of publicity for Vincent van Gogh and the Van Gogh year, the new entrance to the museum, the exhibition program, the successful online campaign and a strong growth of the number of tourists in Amsterdam. Due to the new entrance and therefore the greatly improved visitor logistics, once inside, the museum isn't experienced as crowded.

Also very active online

The number of visitors also increased online. With an increase of 25%, the Van Gogh Museum website was visited by more than 2.5 million people in 2015. The website was awarded the Golden European Design Award and silver for best website during the presentation of the International Design and Communication Awards (IDCA). The social network of the Van Gogh Museum also grew strongly in 2015. The fan base on Facebook rose from 500,000 to 800,000 likes, on Twitter from 100,000 to 145,000, and the number of Van Gogh fans via Google+ increased by more than a million (slightly more than 4 million in 2014 and 5.2 million in 2015). In addition, the number of followers on Instagram also increased: from 5,000 to 33,000.
