HIKING AT THE DRY STONE ROUTE IN MALLORCA

Picture
ME Active - This famous walk GR221 Dry Stone Route in Spain runs from Port d'Andratx in the southwest of Mallorca, all the way to Port de Pollenca in the northwest.
The GR221 Dry Stone Route goes along old paved paths through the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. The walk usually takes eight days and at the end of each stage there are hostels for hikers.
At this moment (2018) not all stages are signposted, so I decided to leave halfway from ettape 5 in Port de Soller until the last stage 8 in Port de Pollenca. These stages are all signposted. In 9 pictures I show you my hiking trip through the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range with my own remarkable view.

1. Far del Cap Gros in Port de Soller

"It feels good to be lost in the right direction." - unknown.
Far del Cap Gros, or the lighthouse at Cap Gros, from 1842 near Port de Soller at the Spanish island Mallorca is my starting point of a three day walk along the GR211 in the Serra de Tramuntana, a mountain range along the northwest coast of the island. In 2011 the mountain range was awarded with a World Heritage Status by UNESCO as an area of great physical and cultural significance.

2. Soller

"There are two kinds of climbers, those who climb because their heart sings when they’re in the mountains, and all the rest." - Alex Lowe.
Just after I left in the morning, I immediately got a view to the mountains of day one of my hiking trip along the GR211, a long distance path through the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range at the island Mallorca in Spain.
Day 1, 28 kilometre (17.4 mile), Muleta -> Tossal Verds

3. Coll de l'Ofre

"The climb might be tough and challenging, but the view is worth it. There is a purpose of that pain; you just can't see it right away." - Victoria Arlen.
After 3 hours hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains to Biniaraix at day one, I got from there a strong climb from another 3 hours to Coll de l'Ofre. And the view I got there was amazing. At the top of the mountain pass I saw Lake Cuber and the Puig Major, the highest peak on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

4. Lake Cuber

"Alone. But not lonely, because I have a lot of nature around me." - me.
Lake Cuber was one of the many beautiful things I saw at my first hiking day in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains in Mallorca. At this picture it looks little, but it's much bigger when you see it from above, like you can notice at the picture before..

5. Puig de Tossal Verds

"Places like this are the reason I bought my hiking boots." - me.
It's one of the most beautiful massifs on Mallorca, the Tossals Verds, in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. There are also two beautiful lakes next to it and I passed the remains of an aqueduct from the eighteenth century. Enough reason to climb this massif and enjoy the wonders of nature.
Day 2, 20 kilometre (12.4 mile), Tossal Verds -> Son Amer

6. Puig de Tossal Verds

"At the top of a mountain is everyone equal." - me.
At day two of my hike along the GR221 through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains I decided to take an extra side path to climb to the top of the Puig de Tossal Verds mountain. The path to the top was just 4 kilometre (2.5 mile) extra from the long  distance path that I followed, 2 up and 2 down. The extra climb was only 350 metre (1,148 feet). And the view and sense of freedom that I had on the top was indescribable beautiful. Only me and the top of the mountain where there, it's like we were together the whole universe.

7. Puig de Sant Miquel

"Mountains have a way of dealing with overconfidence." - Nemann Buhl.
The Puig de Sant Miquel is one of the many beautiful mountains in Mallorca that I saw at day two of my hike along the long distance path GR221 through the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.

8. Lluc

"There was never a night that could defeat sunrise." - Bernard Williams.
When I just left the refugi where I stayed at night and looked back, the first sunshine of the day illuminated one of the mountains I had climbed the day before. When I saw this I knew immediately that day three and the last of my hike along the long distance path GR221 through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains would be a good one.
Day 3, 24 kilometre (14.9 miles), Son Amer -> Port de Pollenca

9. Port de Pollenca

"If the path is beautiful, let's not ask where it leads." - Anatole France.
Port de Pollenca, the end of my hike along the GR211, the long distance path through the beautiful Serra de Tramontane mountains in Mallorca. I was surprised to discover such a beautiful nature at an island what's famous for his beaches and blue water.
