ME News - As usual, the Gay Travel Awards were presented by the American organization GayTravel.com. Because these awards are particularly focused on an American audience, I want to look at which awards and nominations went to European destinations.

Both Amsterdam Pride and WorldPride Madrid were nominated at "Gay Pride of the Year". Despite Madrid hosting WorldPride in 2017 with 2 million participants and Amsterdam Pride hosting the Canal Parade on the water, New York City Pride eventually won. In 2019, New York will also host WorldPride, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn riots.

Among the nominees in the "Bed & Breakfast of the Year" category were two Italian sleeping accommodations, the B&B Bellaugello from Umbria and Relais San Sanino from Tuscany. The other nominations were for B&Bs from the United States. Ultimately, the Americans won again here with the B&B The Worthington from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

European winners

Surprisingly, Czechia was also among the nominees at "Destination International". Finally there was a European winner. Austrian Vienna won this award from destinations such as Argentina and two coastal regions in Mexico.

There is also a European winner in the "Romantic Hotel or Resort" category. The German Burghotel auf Schönburg in Oberwesel, which is located on the Rhine, took the prize here.
