ME.NEWS - Pride Barcelona took place for the 10th time on Saturday 8 June 2017. LGBTQ, heterosexual and cisgender people celebrated under the Spanish palm trees. The entire weekend was a big LGBTQ party in Barcelona. Of course I was there. And I visited the exhibition about Ismael Smith and David Bowie. by Hanan Barcelona is Spain's second largest city and the capital of the autonomous region of Catalonia. Barcelona receives more tourists than any Spanish city and LGBTQ people from all over Europe came to the Spanish gateway to the Mediterranean. Love SpiritThe theme was "Love Spirit", against LGBTI phobia. The weekend of the pride this phobia was not visible, because everyone celebrated the entire weekend. Both LGBTQ people and heterosexuals. Young and old. Individuals with very different gender identities. The weekend started on Friday evening with the largest foam party in Europe. Meanwhile, this is a well-known tradition in Barcelona, the city under the sun. Saturday morning was the Holi Pride, the most colourful event of the entire pride calendar. An event to take part in with all family and friends. At the start of the music, almost everyone went crazy and the colourful powder flew around.
The Saturday afternoon pride followed a stretch of almost 3 kilometres, from the city centre to the old port in Barcelona, where the 'closing party' also took place. A party that lasted into the early hours. Everywhere the pride passed, it seemed like a big party. Smith & BowieDo you want some LGBTQ culture under the Spanish sun in the coming months? In the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, an exhibition about the Catalan artist Ismael Smith is still running until 17 September, which is more than worth a visit. Smith plays with gender roles in his drawings, paintings and sculptures. And in the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona, an exhibition about David Bowie will run until 25 September.
